About ANZAC Day
In Australia, ANZAC Day, observed on April 25th, is a national day
of remembrance honouring the sacrifices of Australian and New
Zealand soldiers, particularly those who served in the First World
War, and all those who have served in all wars, conflicts, and
peacekeeping operations. As the sun rose on 25 April 1915,
Australian and New Zealand soldiers rowed towards the shores
of Gallipoli and into history itself. Every year since, as the sun
rises, Australians gather across the nation to remember their
legacy, and the legacy of all those who have followed in their
footsteps. The name ANZAC; stands for Australian and New
Zealand Army Corps, and the soldiers in those forces became
known as ANZACs.
